Functions

Hi every one!

I hope everyone did well on the test. Today we started a new unit called Functions. Function is a mathematical relation such that each element of a given set (the domain of the function) is associated with an element of another.

We can express functions in ways such as:-
1. sets:- For example A:{2,3,4,5} and set B:{6,7,8,9}.

2. Graphs:- For example this is a graph of the equation f(x)=x^2+2.

3. Formula:- For example f(x)=x^2+2.

We have also talked about relations. Relation is a set of order pairs.
Types of relation functions

1. One-to-one Relation:- this relation is a function because only one element of set A is corresponding another element in set B.

2. One-to-many Relation:- this is not an a function because the element 1 from set is corresponding to 2,4 in set B.

3. Many-to-one Relation:- 3 elements from set A are corresponding to the element 4 in set B which is many to one.

We have also talked about the vertical line test. It is a vertical line that touches the graph only once.
For example this graph is a Function because it touches the vertical line test once.

This one is not a function because it touches the vertical line test twice.

Reflection!

Hi everyone

Tomorrow is the test, and I am quite ready but the only thing that I don't understand is the difference between inductive and deductive reasoning.

Reflection !

hi everyone!!!!

Geometry unit was really fun. specially constructing the angles and finding the patterns and figure out the theorem. But it was a little bit hard to memorize the theorems. But i felt better when Mr. K summarized the theorems in four parts. it was easier than the first time.

Analytic Geometry

Hi there,

Today in class first we did the home work from yesterday and here it is.

Step 1.to substitute -2x+5 in the spot of Y, to get

Step 2. Simplify the equation and add the like terms.
so you will get,

Step 3. Find the roots by using the quadratic formula.

The roots are
x1=5
x2=0.6
Then plug the X roots to find the Y values.
Y1=-2x+5
Y1=-2(5)+5
Y1=-5
Y2=-2(0.6)+5
Y2=-1.2+5
Y2=3.8

After that we did some review questions and here is the first one that we have to find the centre and the radius of a circle.
1) (x+1)^2+(y-4)^2=13
  • To find the centre, find the additive inverse of the X and Y. Which is -1,4. There fore the centre is (-1,4).

  • To find the radius, square both side and you will find the that answer is the square root of 13.

2) The second Question was a little bit different than the first one because we have to find the distance between a point and equation of line. (3,4) to the line 2x-5y=7

after you plug the numbers into the equation you will find that the distance is

Things That I don't get

Hi,

Here are the things that i don't get
  • The Ambiguous cases of triangles.
  • The equation of circle and working with the radius.

Quadratic Equation

Hi there,

Today first we started doing some questions.
and we also did some question related to angles.
When ever you are given a question like this, you should change tan to x.

so it would look like this:-

2x-1=0 or x+1=0
2x=1 x=-1
The roots are (1/2,-1)

So the roots are (1/2,-1)
Now the next step is that we have to find the angles of theta.
angles of theta are
26.6, and 153.4 when theta is 1/2
-45, and 135 when theta is -1.

After that we did a little bit about imaginary numbers.
The general definition for imaginary number is that

For example :-
